Loved your post Susan.

I work in a city/suburban area and our rapid transit is - well, not always
rapid and certainly wouldn't take me everywhere I need to go. :-) I do
primarily home visits (with the occasional office visit as I now have a home
office). For home visits I take a scale I own, and a bag that has folders
for each family of the info they will need along with extra handouts (not
too many of each 'cause they are heavy) that aren't needed often but are
needed on occasion, basic supplies (nipple shield, starter SNS, herbs, sore
nipple shells, larger flanges, P-syringes), my Hale, stethoscope, pens and
calculator. The joke from most of the partner's to mom is "Wow! You're
moving in!" LOL! Of course I have my hands and my brain to fill in the
rest. :-)

At my home office, interestingly enough - I usually get stuff right out of
my bag (like I do at a home visit) which saves me the hassle of having to
have a 2nd set of supplies on a shelf. I do have a couple pillows there
that I do not bring with me to the home visits.

I'd love to make the carrying load a bit lighter, but, I have found over the
past 13 yrs that I can bring everything I need in this manner and it saves
me so much work later (like having to remember to e-mail handouts and such -
my brain is NOT equipped for that! LOL!) . The one thing I'd LOVE to get my
hands on are the long feeding tubes so I can ditch the starter SNS. They
work OK but can be such a pain.so if anyone has a good source for purchasing
please e-mail me privately.

I find it interesting how we have our ways that work for us.and the
different environments we are in.I couldn't even imagine using rapid transit
or a subway to get to consults.I work on the baby's feeding schedule and
show up about 20 minutes early.I'd be too afraid I'd get stuck somewhere or
miss my stop! :-)

Warmly,

Jaye
