In response to Diana West's post. YES! I have seen situations where medical
professional have, in the interest of "supporting breastfeeding"  put
newborns at risk. Babies are supposed to be feeding at the breast not just
being at the breast. I, as a LC, have had to explain the rationale for short
term supplementing while problems of poor supply or difficulty at latching
are being addressed. The first rule: feed the baby, is not always being
