I may be the only person on this list that has ever had her engorged breasts
bound. I let my mother (foolish girl that I was) bind my breasts after having
my twins. I had breastfed my first baby, also got engorged, due to "timed"
feeds and copious amounts of milk. It was 1972 and 3 minutes a side was what
they taught us...I didn't know any better. But no binding that time. With the
birth of the twins and no breastfeeding I was pretty uncomfortable. Binding
really felt fine, seems like it should have been uncomfortable but it wasn't
bad. I wasn't nearly as engorged as I was when I had my first baby. Probably
because no milk was ever removed. But the binding wasn't an issue. What I
find interesting at this late date is that my mother, the anti-breastfeeding
queen, knew how to bind breasts. She had never breastfed and certainly didn't
think she'd ever see her oldest daughter do such a thing. But she knew how to
bind the breasts and that I shouldn't stimulate them at all. This said with a
stern look at my husband. Actually he got all kinds of stern looks that week,
he being personally responsible for her child having 3 kids in 2 years. It
makes you wonder what in the world kind of information she operates on...still
trying to get her not to talk to anyone about breastfeeding. My husband
thinks I became a LC just to rebel one more time...not!
