I worked with a mother many years ago who had breast reduction surgery
without weaning. Her baby was about four months old. She had decided to have
the surgery immediately post-partum, because her breast size increased
considerably while breastfeeding. The surgeon told her to wean before the
surgery, but she kept putting it off and was still nursing when the date for
the surgery arrived. He later told her that it was easier to avoid the milk
ducts because of the surgery. The baby had bottles while she was recovering
but she was able to re-establish breastfeeding afterwards and continued to
nurse for over a year.
