I have a dear friend who has become obsessed with contaminants in
breastmilk. She breastfed her first, who is mildly autistic, and is
concerned that the contaminants contributed to the autism. I have tried to
reassure her that the benefits of breastmilk outweigh the risks of
environmental contaminants, and they're in the water anyway (used to make
formula...) but she remains concerned. She is due to have her second child
any day now, and wants to have her milk tested for the presence of fire
retardants. The Environmental Working Group released a study a while ago
reporting these to be present in high levels in breastmilk. She has asked
me to help her track down somewhere that would test her milk.

Does anyone know where she could send a milk sample to be tested for
contaminants, especially fire retardant chemicals? She is in the Baltimore
area, but I imagine she could freeze it and ship it anywhere on dry ice.

Thanks for any info anyone might have on this.
