Kathy D., according to Martek's home page under company information, in Jan
1997 the company announced that Novartis Nutrition S.A. of Spain had
introduced a preterm infant formula PreAdapta (Sandoz Nutrition) containing
Martek's oils in Spain. Furthermore they state that Novartis represents the
3rd infant formula manufacturer to introduce a product containing Martek's
oils.

Nutricia, based in the Netherlands (November 1996), has Martek's oils as
well as in Belgium, Finland, and the UK (preterm formula--Nenatal).

I am guessing but I suppose the oils are now in regular formula in Spain.

Abbott Labs in the US and Martek signed a non-exclusive license agreement for
Martek's technology for use of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids in
infant formulas in April 2000. All they need is GRAS approval and it will be
in US formula (unless it already is in it--dare I say that?) Who oversees
whether the formula shipped overseas is a separate factory line from the
regular non-DHA formula? Yeah, right the FDA. I don't think they have
inspectors at the factories.

Interesting how we test new products on preterm babies first...Valerie W.
