AMEN!!! I laughed and laughed as I have "fought" with my kids (4 and 2.5)
all day on what to eat and when.

Subject: My morning

I attended two Christmas parties last night and was out quite late. Earlier
this morning I stirred once or twice when Jen and Angus woke up but they
abandoned me and I so slept in a bit longer. I wake up at about 9:30 to the
sound of cupboards banging and the the doorbell is ringing; the dog has
gotten lose and someone has returned her.

I come downstairs to find Tom, who is a friend who boards in my basement,
making "apple-eggs" (hard-boiled eggs) for Angus, who is watching TV in the
family room, (naked, bundled in blankets, and disinclined to get up from his
nest)

Jennifer is hanging out in the kitchen and attaches herself to my elbow. Tom
retires from his child-minding duties and I'm on my own. I didn't drink
enough to be hung-over but I did have several glasses of champagne/cranberry
juice and I was out until 1:30 a.m. and so I'm fuzzy headed and tired.

Jenny doesn't want eggs for breakfast, she doesn't like eggs. There's no
bread for toast. She turns down porridge.

I offer to make muffins. She wrinkles her nose, "it'll take too long, I'm so
hungry, there's NOTHING to eat in the house." She finds a mandarin orange
and peels and eats that while I make apple-raisin muffins.

Then I offer her a kiwi fruit and peel Angus's egg.

He complains, "you didn't water it enough" (meaning I didn't hold it under
cold water long enough to cool it so he can hold it in his hand and eat it
like an apple - hence "apple-egg.") He's panicked, tossing a hot egg between
his hands but he's decided being naked in public isn't on so he's staying
under the blanket and I have to plop a plate under his nose before the egg
hits the ground.

About 10 minutes later he asks, "where's my hot cocoa" and so I make him
one. Jenny doesn't like hot cocoa any more and I don't even offer.

Jenny starts yelling, "I need hot cocoa, I need it!" I go see what's wrong -
the kiwi fruit is stinging her tongue. We settle on a glass of cold water.
The muffins are cool and I offer both kids a muffin. Jenny takes hers but
can't eat it because her tongue is "prickly." Angus says, "no thanks, I
don't like raisins, (this is new!) I want porridge.

I make the porridge. Cinnamon but no raisins. I've now been up for an hour
and haven't had my coffee yet.

It was SO much easier when their breakfast was mommy's milk!!!
