Here's a repeat of a post of mine a year ago. It's a "small" study but
the title and date of discussion can give others clues to searching for
more of that discussion:

J Obstet Gynecol Neonatal Nurs. 1993 Jul-Aug;22(4):338-47.
Breastfeeding support services in the neonatal intensive-care unit.
Meier PP, et al
Department of Maternal-Child Nursing, University of Illinois, Chicago

OBJECTIVE: To describe a model for providing breastfeeding support in
the
neonatal intensive-care unit (NICU)... PATIENTS: One hundred thirty-
two (132)
mother-infant pairs over 1 year. Infants were hospitalized in the NICU,
and mothers had initiated lactation efforts. INTERVENTIONS:
Investigators
provided breastfeeding interventions for the mother-infant pairs, based
on
identified problems, the research literature, or both. ...CONCLUSIONS:
This model was effective in preventing breastfeeding failure for this
population....

I could dig up the full-text but my memory is that there were no failures
in this one intensive intervention trial.
