Just got home from 14 hours of work (hospital). The last call I took was
from a Mom newly moved here. She has a thriving 12 month old daughter. On
her last visit to the baby's doctor a couple of weeks ago, in another
state, was told "There is no nutritional value in breastmilk after one
year. Wean her and start whole cow's milk." She expressed her dismay to
me since neither she nor the baby are ready to wean, and was afraid she was
doing something wrong. She bottlefed her other baby, 17 years ago. By
the way, "almost all the women in my family have had breast cancer".

Heavy sigh.....The good news out of this is that I got to spend 30 minutes
discussing how wonderful she is to have listened to her mommy's heart and
to have continued her nursing. I was happy to be able to offer her several
good websites, the wonderful books available, and a support group. Thanks
to all you authors and webmasters out there! Onward in the fight against
ignorance.
