Thank you for responding as a BOD to this critical issue. I join many others with a grave concern for the future viability of this "profession".
I have renewed my ILCA membership for this year, but await IBCLE's revision of the SOP prior to making arrangements to recertify by exam as an IBCLC. Within the hospital setting, my RN is sufficient to do the work that I do as an LC. "Breastfeeding Specialist" is the term most of my colleagues, including physicians, use to describe the specific lactation work that I do. Perhaps being an RN with a Breastfeeding specialty is an accurate representation of my work. Perhaps my being an IBCLC contributes to an organization which has no power nor ability to confer strength to its' own credential. I see no need to participate, if that remains the case.
