Hi, I am counseling a client after the birth of her baby. she says she
wants to breastfeed , but is so sensitive in the breast area that even
moving a gown across them makes her jump. She says they are painful if
touched, " and have always been so". The breasts are very large and
pendulous. We have suggested relaxation techniques and desensitizing by
gentle massage, which she says she can not tolerate. She asked about
pumping but cannot even put the pump up to the breast. The CBE generally
inquired about trauma to the breasts or anything she thought might make her
feel this way, without any feedback. Besides previous sexual abuse as a
factor, does anyone have any experience with a similar situation. To make
matters worse she has a sleepy baby from an epidural. She has offered the
breast twice and says it was very painful.
Without a clue,
