How long does a baby need the extra calories and nutrients that preemie
babies need? It seems that some babies get a 22 calorie ABM or a breastmilk
fortifier from the first feeds, and I want to know how long they must have
this. It seems to me that the more complicated the feeding routine is, the
more likely it is that mothers will quit breastfeeding. Do any babies need
to be discharged on 22 calorie ABM instead of MOM? Does everyone who is
stable enough to go home from NICU grow on breastfeeding and MOM okay? It
seems the answer is 9 months for babies taking only ABM. Some babies are
born at 35-36 weeks, do not need NICU care, but do they need extra
nutrients and calories? thank you, Judy
