The doc may benefit from reviewing the Drs. Lawrence book re: inflammatory vs. infectious mastitis.

I wonder if this mom could have some "disconnected" breast tissue that her monthly hormone changes affect? The symptoms you mention don't include fever. Does she also get that or only the s/s of inflammation? If no real fever indicative of bacterial infection, why consider antibiotics? But I wonder if a round-the-clock per directions of a NSAID might help -- not so much for pain relief but for NSAIDs anti-inflammatory aspect.
