While we're voting on the value of naming various products on
LACTNET, I'd like to weigh in with my 0.2 ml's worth. Even though I
live outside the US, and for most of my LC career lived in a country
where hardly any lactation aids and devices were available at all -
I'd never even seen an electric breast pump for the first 10 years -
I always followed the discussions about them on LACTNET, trying to
visualize what everyone was talking about and feeling, by extension,
that I was being kept somewhat up to date. So I agree completely
with Jeanne and Royce that it's very useful to hear about "stuff"
that's available in other parts of the world. Even though, like
Magda, I'm cautious about the use of various products and ointments,
I like hearing what nipple creams are available over the other side
of the Atlantic, and what my colleagues think about them, just as I
like hearing what they think about various
pumps/shields/herbs/galactogogues - how else am I going to
learn? We live in a global village - what's not available in our
shops today may well be exported into them next week or next
month. Furthermore, our clients are very consumer-oriented, and it
helps to have advance warning.
