When I worked in the WIC clinic I had a mother and daughter that had their
babies several weeks apart. They "confessed" (their word, not mine) that
they each breastfed both babies. I was so honored that they felt comfortable
enough with me to tell me something that they obviously had not told anyone
else. I was also interested to know that the babies would nurse from either
set of breasts, but when both sets were present preferred their own mother's
breast. These moms worked opposite shifts at a gas station so that they
would not have to pay daycare costs and also so that they would not have to
use bottles or ABM while the babies grew. They had every intent to continue
to breastfeed until the second year. Don't know if they were successful,
changed jobs and lost touch.
