Best Start has all of it's patient education pieces in Spanish. The most
recent are Working and Breastfeeding, How to Breastfeed, and the Question and
Answer sheet. All are culturally correct for Hispanic populations, photos
include mothers, fathers and babies from 10 different Spanish speaking
countries of origin. The pieces were pretested in CA, TX, FL, and Colorado
with participating mothers from 8 different countries of origin.

Amy Spangler's book, A Parents Guide to Breastfeeding, also comes in a
Spanish version. It is excellent and follows the English well. I have used
it to figure out words that are unusual, and not found in the Spanish-English
Dictionary that I used when I worked in the clinic with migrant farm workers
applying for WIC services here in the US.

I guess I should reintroduce myself. I am one of the Lactation Consultants
that works for Best Start Social Marketing in Tampa, FL. I am the project
coordinator for the "Loving Support" program. I have 10 years experience in
WIC, both as a nutritionist and as a State Breastfeeding Coordinator. I have
been "No Mail" for about 6 months. I was very sick this last summer and
missed 2.5 months of work with a systemic staph infection. I just couldn't
keep up with the posts while recuperating. It's good to be well again and
back on track with breastfeeding promotion. I live in Florida, on the gulf
coast, and we are just getting ready to go out for a long bike hike to work
off all that good cookin' we did yesterday. It's to be 73* and sunny today!

Linda J. Inglis, BS, IBCLC
