Thank you to our list mother for the clarification of the guidelines.
If the use of *** rather than full names, as in A*** rather than Avent,
is designed to protect Lactnet from legal entanglements, does the fact that
all list members should know which product/company is being referred to negate
the protection?
For example, if we were slandering the president, (not that any of us
ever would), would we be protected if we used B**** Clin**** in the White
House rather than his full name?
I would suspect that if there were legal culpability, the use of
asterisks would offer scant protection if the court decided that all of the
suscribers knew what product/company was being discussed. And if that is so,
why use the "code"?
Is there another way? And if we are discussing, not slamming, is there
really a legal problem at all?
