This is one of the videos by GorgeousBabyGiraffe, the Nestle troll
masquerading as an idealistic father who wants to help other new parents
through YouTube. Fleur Bickford alerted us on Nov 8 about him. I hadn't
watched them before, but tonight I was a glutton for punishment and have
checked the breastfeeding and the bottle-feeding ones out.

The same woman who was billed as a nurse practitioner, unnamed, in the
breastfeeding video, is in this one too. I noticed that her facial
expressions were distinctly uncomfortable in the breastfeeding one, whereas
in the bottle feeding one she was very relaxed, her voice was more animated
and she gushed more about what a wonderful opportunity bottle feeding is to
bond with the baby. As she was explaining this, the camera panned to the
baby's face to show how bonding works, since baby is at the perfect distance
to be able to focus on mother's face, and she was out cold! She had guzzled
the bottle with eyes wide open and I think I saw her flaring her nostrils,
and as we watched this part the NP was praising the mother for doing great.
The most important thing is keeping the bottle tipped upright so no air
bubbles get into the nipple. The volume of the feed was enormous, and the
baby could not have been more than about 3.5 kg at most. Several minutes
were devoted to trying the different positions for burping, made even
sillier by the baby having emitted a belch that would do a grown man proud,
before even being lifted up to mother's shoulder. The baby should be
getting fed 'every four to five hours' if on formula, but would need to be
fed every two hours if you had breastmilk in the bottle since it 'tends to
empty the stomach faster'.

The breastfeeding one was bad too, among its flaws bringing baby to breast
with a hand behind baby's head, pressing her into the breast, and describing
the cross cradle hold incorrectly, and those text overlays referring you to
verybestbaby.com every couple of minutes. The discussion of maternal diet
was awful too. Yucko.
