Hi everyone,
Today's Wall Street Journal (Thursday, April 25) has a cover story about the
product Ensure, called "Ensure Spends Millions Pushing Meals in a Can to Aging
Population: First Market Was Patients Unable to Eat Solid Food." It seems
Ensure is marketed by Abbott Labs and has found a goldmine selling canned
milkshakes to the elderly -- spending $44 million a year to convince folks they
need it, and raking in $500 million in sales. One great quote in the article is
from a doctor who who suggests folks might actually be better off eating their
meals. He says, "Nutritional supplements just give you expensive urine."
The scary thing about the article is how familiar it is. Yes, folks, it is deja
vu all over again ....
