Hi Margaret, I take a stab at this one.  Does anyone know if their was a 
partial abruption of the placenta?  This could theoretically cause a decrease in 
the progesterone, and her hormones were preparing for a pre-term baby.  
Once the contractions stopped, perhaps the potenial small tear (abruption) 
healed and hormonally, things settled down.  The human body is an amazing 
creation.  I once knew a lady pregnant with triplets...miscarried one early. ie 
before 12 weeks, the second delivered at 20 weeks, and the doctors were 
able to stop contractions, circlage her cevix and kept the last one in until 
close to term.  From what the MD's told me this was so rare that there are 
only a handful of cases like this.  It is very hard to stop delivery at 20 weeks 
after one baby delivers, almost 100% chance of losing both.  What a miracle.  
Sorry I got a little off topic....Somethings are just beyond comprehension.  
What amazing creatures we humans are...Especially pregnant ones..
