I currently have a patient (now almost 3 months old), who is gaining weight
well, but was very grumpy after feeding. Suspecting reflux (she is
breastfeed), we started Zantac at 2 months, and she is now a much happier
baby. This makes some sense - reflux is uncomfortable (and I speak now from
the experience of a pregnant patient who has to pay close attention to what I
eat, or I spend the evening with a bottle of TUMS). However, I hadn't
considered the foremilk/hindmilk issue. I think Mom is already feeding one
side at a time, until done, but I'll certainly find out, as both she and I
would like to be able to stop meds when the baby doesn't need them.

Thanks for sending in even "absurd advice" - I'm learning a lot!
