Today I got a full body bone scan (ordered by my gynecologist.) The tech
was very surprised at my excellent report because I have never drunk milk,
exercised much or taken any calcium and my grandmother had severe
osteoporosis. I asked her if she had ever read any of the research
regarding breastfeeding and osteoporosis, she said she had "heard of
it." When I told her I had breastfed 9 years and maybe that was a factor,
she just raised her eyebrows and didn't make much comment. Later,I started
to wonder if she thought my mother breastfed me 9 years! A good laugh!
This may be all over my small town by tomorrow, adding more to the "Pam
Wiggins is a breastfeeding nutcase" dialogue.

Keep smiling.

Pam Wiggins, IBCLC, Franklin VA
