Our state breastfeeding coalition held its January meeting by conference call
today. (This is the Pennsylvania coalition, the state where I live, not the
coalition in New Jersey, the state where I work. I just posted a note about a
NJ coalition, and I don't want you to be confused.)

One topic of discussion was official guidelines for human milk storage in the
NICU. Participants in the call agreed that no hospital among us follows a
national standard. Various standards were mentioned, including HMBANA (Human
Milk Banking Association of North America) Guidelines and "Caring for our
Children," which is a publication for day care workers by the US Department
of Health and Human Services. People seemed to think that each hospital made
its own guidelines.

Can my Lactnet NICU colleagues tell us what guidelines they follow--a
national or state standard or a home-made, home-researched standard? Please
send replies to Martha Kautz, whose email is <[log in to unmask]>.

Thanks to all who can help.
