Cheryl, You did misinterpret my message. I am sorry that my post is being
thought of as sarcastic towards you or anyone else. My post is a reflection
of my frustration in getting across the message that these items are not
simply algae or fungi. And yes, you are right there is probably more
possibilities of allergies from genetic engineering and I might add more
potential for health risks.

I am not sure anymore how to get the message across. I gather from the posts
that most people on Lactnet have chosen to take Martek and articles from Jane
Brody at face value. I think that is a mistake but I am beginning to realize
even more than I ever did the power of the media to sway public opinion.
There are at least 11 patents in the US Patent Office on genetically
engineering these microorganisms by Martek. The federal government gave them
a million dollar grant to do the research on the genetic engineering of this
algae. If anyone wants the references to the patents or this government
funding, I will be glad to give them out.

The GRAS status of these microorganisms from the FDA reflects the new rules
of GRAS notification and not necessarily whether these items are safe. GRAS
status has undergone streamlining that can only benefit most biotech firms.

I can only explain my post that sounded rude, sarcastic and fanatical to you
by having you imagine what is like to see a campfire in the forest start to
engulf the bushes near it. Imagine you turn to the people with you and say
the campfire has spread to the bushes. No one hears you and when you turn
around not only are the bushes engulfed in flames but the whole forest. You
turn back and shout but no one is paying attention and for some strange
reason they can't see the fire or smell the smoke. You jump up and down, you
scream, you swear and everyone looks at you and wonders what is wrong with
you. Why are you so rude, sarcastic and fanatical? I am sorry that I came
across so poorly that you felt attacked. Valerie W. McClain, IBCLC
