Quick update:

Facebook has apologized to Emma Kwasnica for deleting her breastfeeding
images and suspending her account, and has invited her to re-upload her
images and to meet with them further about her concerns.

BUT, as has been the case with previous apologies, the photo deletions and
account suspensions continue. Emma has told Facebook she won't accept their
apology unless they fix the problem and make amends. Details are here on my
blog - it is updated frequently: http://www.bit.ly/stopfacebookharassment

We need help from the Lactnet network:

1) we have a survey we are using to help Emma communicate the scope of the
problem to Facebook. Can you please take a moment to fill out the survey
yourselves - if you have had images removed or if you now someone who has,
your input is valuable.

This is the link for people who are on Facebook, please use this link
first:

This link works from outside Facebook and from mobile devices:

2) I think there is value in Facebook hearing from health care
professionals and associations and organizations. I am collecting letters
of support. The main message is to ask Facebook to stop harassing,
intimidating, bullying, and shaming breastfeeding mothers. I am not sure
where to send these letters yet - likely on some sort of off-Facebook but
public website - so consider them to be open letters. If you have the
resources to do a letter within the next 24 hours, please email it to me at

Thank you very much for all of your support. It seems sometimes that social
media is a trivial part of our society, and yet younger people - the ones
having babies right now! - do not distinguish much between their virtual
and real lives. It's all just life for them. If we want breastfeeding in
public, we need breastfeeding on Facebook.
