Thanks so much to Jonathan Kramer and Dr Jack Newman for their opinions on
whether a two-year old should wean or continue to nurse while mum takes
clomiphene. Having struggled to conceive the first time, this child is very
special indeed (aren't they all?) and the mother has already stated that if
weaning is necessary then she will delay taking the clomiphene until he
self-weans. Breastfeeding means so much to them both that she is simply not
prepared to cut short a beautiful nursing relationship with the child that
she already HAS in the HOPE that she may conceive another. As they have had
a "text-book" nursing experience up to now, it is possible that this little
boy could go on nursing for another two years. Her dilemma is that she and
her husband WOULD like another baby, if possible, and time is marching on.
Dr Newman your understanding of the meaning of extended weaning is
heartening! Thanks once again to all who have contributed their opinions.
