Such a great discussion, with special thanks to Chris Mulford for her
provocative questions and comments.  We really do need research on these
issues.  I see women all the time who will never consent to full
breastfeeding, and my goal then becomes helping them reach and sustain their
goals of partial bfg.  My sense is that it goes better if they can bring in
a full supply initially.  I think it promotes greater flexibility, as once
the system has been fully "primed" it appears to me to be more responsive to
up-and down-regulation as needed.
