This is an interesting study. I have a quibble with their cause and effect, however.

When separating the mother mouse from her offspring (to ensure the absence of
lactation), they observe increased levels of stress and slower rates of wound
healing. Of course the lack of lactation itself is one possible cause.
We all know that when mother and baby are separated (esp. immediately after birth),
mother will be stressed. So lack of mother-baby (skin-to-skin) contact could be
another cause of the observed effects.
