I wanted to share a life story with all of you. In 1980 The Israel
Pediatric Assoc. held a Prof. conference on bf. It was a marker for many
of use LLL leaders and IBCLCers here today. Toward the end of the 3
days in a talk about the economic benefits of bf someone mentioned that
Papua New Guinea upon becoming independent realized that their
traditional bf patterns would be endangered and passed a law that BMS
and bottles could be had only by doctors prescription. I was so
impressed by the wisdom of that so called developing country--that I've
always wanted to go there. My daughter and her boyfriend set out on
their traveling journey in January--New Zealand, Aus, When I was
talking about it with her I suggested they go to Papua and told her why
I had a thing about it.
So they are there and love it, say it is the most beautiful place in the
world and they are extending their stay. Also this daughter was 11 when
I was bf her youngest sister who was 2 and she was of course embarassed
and now sees the Papuas' bf kids of all ages everywhere. Interesting
how the interest in bf connects with life. That's all.
