Can I support Kathy Dettwyler in repeating that the major problem with growth charts is the people who "try" to intepret them, i.e. pediatricians and nurses. A growth chart is simply a screening device and as with all screening tests they are neither accurate or reliable. They raise the possibility that something may be wrong and that sometimes, some intervention needs to take place. Most interventions concerning growth charts have to do with saying nothing, waiting and watching. Unfortunately most medical personnel seem constitutionally incapable of waiting, unless they knit or read, a lot. The less said about saying nothing, the better. David
