Hi all-

I have run out of suggestions for this mom...any more ideas(I have her
permission)?

35 y/o mom, first baby.  Saw us first at 1 month of age, at which time baby
was 1 oz above birthweight.  Mom had been supplementing with 4 oz formula
per day.  Had not had trouble with plugged ducts at that point.  Started
fenugreek, deeper latch, breast compressions, pumping after nursing for
extra stimulation/removal and supplement.  The assessment was that she had a
non-demanding baby who slept at the breast with a shallow latch. Since then
he has gained 3 pounds in 2 months...however...

2 weeks after seeing us she developed a plugged area  in left breast leading
to mastitis, and took Keflex for 10 days, and this resolved.  Mom was stil
needing to supplement quite a bit (now via Lact-aid).  3 weeks later area in
right breast flared up.  Mom feels these tend to occur when she is making
strides in increasing her supply.  Has been managing by pumping, ibuprofen,
massage, pumping, castor oil packs, lecithen, grapefruitseed.  She gets a
"flare-up" about once a week, in revolving areas, and is understandably
frustrated, but determined.

I guess my main question is, why do some moms do this??  We have 3 right
now, one of whom quit yesterday.  Is it worth a trial of Diflucan, even with
no overt yeast symptoms?  I seem to have in the back of my brain that I have
heard the theory that yeast may cause them to have chronically inflamed
ducts, making them prone to plugging? (or did I dream this?)
