I believe that a teaching sheet for hospital staff should address issues as
if those issues were international. Thus a teaching sheet that only addresses
hiv transmission as if medical staff will only work within the USA may create
some major blunders internationally. Many members of my local medical
community volunteer and/or work internationally--many donating their time in
developing countries where their skills maybe needed. Thus, in my opinion, a teaching
sheet that does not discuss whether infant formula is AFASS (acceptable,
feasible, affordable, sustainable and safe) for the hiv positive mother would be
unacceptable. I believe that this is the UN policy used in developing nations.
The medical community in the USA should be made aware of it because many of
them do not just practice within the USA but also volunteer their skills in
developing countries.
