It is typical of many physician's prescribing habits always to
prescribe the latest hottest drug that was just promoted to them by
the drug company.  I have no information about this drug, but it is
likely related to ciprofloxacin and norfloxacin and all that crowd
that was said to cause articular damage to young animals that took
them.

Why this drug, instead of a trillion other safer older ones, is
necessary to treat pneumonia is beyond my reckoning.

This has been shown *not* to be true in humans, and I would say the
drugs are *not* contraindicated during breastfeeding.

By the way, the hospital routine which did not allow the mother and
baby into hospital together is out of date and not mother baby
friendly.

Finally, after all is said and done, it is the mother's decision, not
the physician's decision.
