We did a quality improvement project at my hospital in which we encouraged moms whose babies were at high risk for hypoglycemia to keep their babies skin to skin for the duration of the blood sugar testing period.  We reduced admissions to the NICU significantly without seeing an increase in formula supplementation.  Here is a link the article we published: http://journals.lww.com/pqs/Citation/2017/07000/Effects_of_Skin_to_Skin_Care_on_Late_Preterm_and.3.aspx

Found an interesting book "How to Become Mother-Friendly: Policies and procedures for Hospitals, Birth Centers and Home Birth Services." Hotelling & Gordon 2014.  Step 10 is all about S-T-S and BF initiation- very through.  Pat in SNJ

We have added 40% dextrose gel to our protocol to minimize formula
