Hello All,
I have been doing a lot of work recently to raise awareness at my
institution about risks of pacifier use for breastfeeding newborns. I have
written a couple of articles that were published in our perinatal complex
newsletter, I am writing a handout for patients that will be used during the
admit process, and I went to the pediatricians' monthly section meeting and
presented info to them as well. I would be happy to share my articles/
handout/ proposal to docs/admin with interested lactnetters. My stuff has a
few references, you can get LOTS more from WHO's 1999 publication Evidence
For the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding.
One question that was asked during peds section meeting was why are
fingers ok and pacifiers aren't? I had to say I have not seen this question
addressed in the literature, but that ample evidence exists that shows
pacifier use is a risk to breastfeeding success. Does anyone have more info
or ideas about this? I would especially love to get my hands on studies or
journal articles.
TIA
