Subject: Breastfeeding support group
Hello, I am so glad to be back on lactnet, I was often an observer until recently. I would like to thank all who responded to my last post re:photos. All information and comments where greatly appreciated.
In Dec.'99 I was appointed the LC position 24hrs/wk, in a community hospital which has about 2200 births/year. I began and promoted a breastfeeding support group which meets once a week for 2hrs. The response has been terrific! I was just wondering how others run the group? I usually have the mothers introduce themselves and baby and state any concerns at the time. I have had a few guest speakers, nutritionist and child life specialist. Occasionally , there is dead space, where no one is saying anything. Do others plan agenda's or have certain topics they cover, or do you let the mothers self direct themselves? I prefer to keep the air relaxed and comfortable and I want to best serve my clientele.
Thanks,
Annette Leary BSN, IBCLC
