Mom with unexplained low milk supply had blood drawn for TSH, T4 & prolactin
(they did baseline only), done at just over 90 days postpartum. Prolactin
came back at 79, which is within the range given in Lawrence. TSH was .17;
mom was told it should be between .49-4.67. Her T4 was .98, which was
considered normal (range given .71-1.85)-- mom was told that T4 mitigated
the low TSH. Her doctor said that he was almost leaning towards *hyper*
thyroid----????

This mom's own grandmother and aunt are hypothyroid. How would you medical
experts interpret this?

In the meantime, mom has began taking fenugreek after the blood tests, 2
caps 2-3X a day, and says her supply has improved. While we no longer have
an immediate milk supply crisis, mom still questions whether treatment for
low thyroid would help more directly.
