 article in Birth 29(3) 2002.

breast stimulaiton for cervical ripening and induction of labour/ kavanagh,
kelly and thomas

..reviewers conclusion: "breast stimulation cannot be fully evauated on
efficacy and safety grounds from the included studies. whilst it would appear
beneficial in terns of a reduction in the number of women not in
labour after 72 hours, and a reduction in postpartum haemorrhage, until
safety issues have been fully evaluated it should not be considered for use
in a high risk populations. "

there was NO instances of uterine hyperstimulationn in a populaiton of 719
women. there was no significant decrease in c/s rate.

opart of the reviewers concern is the small sample size/ they also
caompared breast stim with oxytocin with no differences found.
