This is on a personal note; My husband and his family have asthma. His
daughter had it from the time she was in infant and many trips to the
hospital her first year and throughout her life. At times she was so bad
as to be on a ventilator in ICU. She was not breastfed at all.

I nursed our first child to one year and promptly regreted weaning. He
was allergic to any formula with diarrhea being the major effect. With
my second I had found LLL and nursed him till he was almost four. Both
of them had asthma when they were little. Both of them had their worst
attacks around age two and these were also their last attacks. (one of
them had to go to emergency and had many shots before it was brought
under some control and then a week or more before the wheezing was
entirely gone.)

BUT the one thing I still did was drink tons of milk myself. They were
allergic (diarrhea) to milk and though I didn't give it to them I drank
it. (okay, not too bright on my part) But then I realized that even
intrauterine sensitization was going on and so with my third I made a
concious effort to greatly diminish my intake. This child I also
nursed till a few months past four and she never had any symptoms of
asthma. I also lost my craving for milk (hmm). She never liked milk and
I never made her drink it.

BUT now at 16 she has allergy related (cat dander) and exercise induced
asthma. go figure. Of course I don't know what they would be like if I
hadn't nursed, probably chronic and bad like their Dad and older sister.

just my experience in the matter.
