I never said that Michael Dorris did or did not molest his daughters.  I
said that he killed himself after being accused of it, and knowing he was
about to be arrested.  Michael Dorris was a famous writer and a famous
anthropologist, and those of us who knew him (even if only through brief
meetings at conferences and correspondence, in my case) were devastated both
by the accusations and by the suicide.  He committed suicide in April of
1997 and it made national headlines, was in Time, Newsweek, on CNN, etc.  I
guess it was an incorrect assumption on my part that this sordid story was
part of common knowledge.

Here is a web address that lists many sites that include information about
the accusations, suicide, etc.  The first two include a long article in
Salon, and another from the Seattle Times.

I can't *believe* anyone would think I would make this up out of whole
cloth.  I mean, really, folks.
