Pat, you talk about Kay Hoover's "thrush sheet". Can one get this
through La Leche League, or some other way?

I can give her the information on how long it is in her urine or what
the
negative effects there are but there is no half-life or amount of time
that I can
find where she can go back to nursing. How long should she wait? Other
drugs
give this information. I would never tell someone to nurse or not nurse
when
giving medication information. It is absolutely their choice.

Thanks for all the information here and privately. I now have lots of
good
information to keep on this topic that is not in my books.

Subject: Christmas creche and breastmilk

Somewhat humorous but also pathetic. My well organized secretary gave me
her
Christmas gift list today. One item was "Precious Moments" creche
pieces.
She specifically wanted the trees, but w/ them were "baby food" which
was a
old fashioned bottle of cows' milk and a box w/ several small objects I
guess representing baby food. Huh!? Somehow I don't think Jesus was
drinking
cows' milk out of a bottle and eating baby food out of containers! I
told
her that if it had been a baby bottle, I would have absolutely refused
to
buy it for her.

I would wonder if, when her supply is higher, baby finishes the breast
too quickly or mom switches sides too quickly--in other words, feeds in
some way that causes a higher lactose load. Which also makes me wonder
if mom needed the fenugreek or improved latch?

Subject: DHA levels around the world

Hello,

There's been some discussion about the levels of DHA in breastfeeding
mothers around the world. It really is a fact that the levels vary from
country to country, even from state to state in the U.S. Women in Japan
have a much higher DHA level in their breast milk than women from the
U.S.;
in fact, I think that they have the highest levels of any country
because of
a diet high in fish. I have a whole list somewhere at work comparing
the
levels from different countries. When I get back to work (not for a few
days) I will look it up and post the source. Maybe someone else has
this
and can post it sooner. I'm not advocating the need to supplement, but
I
think this is interesting.

That's just what I observed yesterday! The baby licked and nuzzled and
was
nusing by about 1 hr of age. The baby is mostly in Bonnie's arms or in
sight. My yougest grandchild is 6 and was bottlefed :-( so it's been a
while since I've had a chance to be up close and personal with the real
deal
:-)

5 day old baby in today with thrush. Older Dr filling in at our office
insisted that thrush will not go away until she weans. Our interpreter
went
and got me, we talked about GV and how to use it and I fixed her up with
APNO and assured her it will work. I hope it does, she is 16 with no ins
:-( I just don't know how to make him see that what he learned eons
ago
is just old stuff and we know lots of new ways to do things so moms can
keep
breastfeeding. But I will give him a copy of Kay Hoover's thrush sheet
next
week! Pat in SNJ
