I've seen posts on Lactnet before about moms with 'golf ball' style nipples
and of course scrolled thru and shouldn't have because saw my first 'case'
today. Moms nipples are actually more like gumballs. Sweet 24 hr. baby with
little mouth sort of gets ball into mouth then just sits there apparently
unable to go any further. The nipple looks like a (2cm diameter) ball on
the end of the breast rather than a 'point'. She does suck a tiny bit and
I'm seeing her again (in hospital still) tomorrow. The dr. said 'oh good
I'm glad you're here' when I appeared today, and promptly left the room!!!!
But since Dad had just given formula, the baby wasn't hungry in the 2 hrs.
I was around. Any useful suggestions? Maybe it will be OK and
straightforward. Maybe not. I'm afraid that even if baby latches Mom will
have very sore nipples as they will surely be very squished. Are these
kinds of nipples common? Anyone have experience as to what these breasts do
when milk comes in?
Primip mom, nervous husband who asked me what % of women are unable to make
milk.....
