"Sara, try reading some Dutch parenting discussiongroups and fora (for
instance OudersOnline) and yoiu'll get your neckhairs stand right up. "

Ok, but I have a severe aversion to the above mentioned one!

"They do it for hours at a time. All night and all daytime sleeping which
may be 2 2-3
hour stretches. Dutch babies are taken in for the night between 7 and 8 and
are supposed to sleep untill next morning 7 or 8."

Luckily, my kids are born to a scatter brain, so schedules don't come into
our routine! I also took a look at the site Heleen mentions - that was
enough to get my hackles up. The owner of this site is selling swaddeling
towels for around 75US$ and up! I have no experience with swaddeling, but I
think I would rather encourage the use of a sling - the soft stretchy-bouncy
type I have, where one size fits all ;-). Baring that, and it is difficult
to iron clothes and carry a baby, I would go for a baby hamock strung in a
playpen (which EVERY Dutch parent buys before the babe is born!). I wouldn't
go straight for the swaddeling, as happens here - without ever seeing if the
mother and babe need proper help with bf (not that it is available here) or
other problems. I'm convinced babies are being swaddeld absolutely
unecessarily here.]
