Lactnetters with an interest in infant feeding in emergencies (including those preparing for this year's World Breastfeeding Week) are invited to join the following new yahoo group
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Advocacy-IFE/

"Infants and young children are vulnerable when an emergency strikes. Ensuring that mothers receive braestfeeding support so that as many infants and young children as possible are breastfed maximises survival. Ensuring that those the carers of infants who cannot be breastfed receive a comprehensive package of care including a constant supply of infant formula, clean water, fuel, feeding and cleaning implements, education and medical care increases the chances of artificially fed infants surviving. Lobbying aid agencies and governments to take up policies and action that will provide this type of aid is a goal of this group. Lobbying to prevent the unsolicited donation and untargeted distribution of infant formula and other milk products in emergency areas, which harms both breastfed and non-breastfed infants is also a goal.
Grass roots advocacy is required to maxmise helpful aid and prevent harmful aid- this group will attempt to facilitate such action."
