Joylyn,
First, my heart goes out to your family. This is hard, and it's a long
haul. Hang in there for each other and get yourselves all the support
you can muster.

I don't know much about this issue, but I did look into it when my
father was sick about a year and a half ago.
1. There is very little research on this issue, if you have some
resources, I'd love to know about them. Doesn't have to be about colon
but about any adult uses of breast milk. I heard about one study on men
with prostate problems (I think it was prostate) but as of a year or so
ago, the results had not yet been published.

2. It is unlikely you will convince an insurance company to cover it,
they don't even cover most infants. But it can't hurt to try. Let us
know how that goes.

3. When my father was sick, his oncologist was reluctant to write a
prescription for him, so my mother approached a friend who is an OB. He
hadn't heard of using breast milk, but he figured it couldn't hurt and
wrote the prescription. You don't need a prescription from any
particular doctor for it to be filled by the milk bank, just a doctor.

4. Is she hospitalized? That would make it more difficult to give her
breast milk if the doctor doesn't approve, but at home you can try
anything you want.

Hope this helps, keep us posted on all fronts, when you can.
  Naomi
