I concur with the advice to observe and be taught how to wear baby in a
sling. I was in awe yesterday when my daughter walked in wearing her little guy
next to her chest, all snuggled close and sleeping blissfully, with the shoulder
pad where it was supposed to be. She attended a LLL meeting, was graciously
shown how to position the baby, tighten the tail and saw one of the leaders
wearing her ten mos old similarly; nothing like hands on help. I had to marvel
at her confidence and look of satisfaction. I struggled for 3 yr with my
youngest getting the shoulder pad in the correct position and finally gave up and
wore it however it went on. I wore my grandson while my daughter took a swim,
finally comfortable with his weight evenly distributed, thanks to the next
generation being more spatially oriented than I.

Slings do come in sizes for height of mom, at least the Over the Shoulder
Baby Holder brand and Parenting Concepts ones (no financial interest in either).
I also will never forget a member of our Consortium coming to meetings with
her infant to 3-4 yr old son worn in a Maya wrap, and her adroitness in its use
despite her small stature of about 5 ft.

When I'm trying to get moms to keep baby close with slings, I suggest they
come to group and watch the other moms who use it with ease. I always tell them
how wonderful and easy it is to nurse, cuddle and keep baby happy by wearing
them and when they see it for themselves, a picture speaks a thousand words.

their wings.)
