On 31st Oct '05 Rachel Myr observed and pondered the reasons
behind a distinct lack of obesity in babies and children in Paris. This
phenomenon was recently discussed elsewhere in relation to lean
adult French women (sorry don't recall where).

The answer seems to hinge around freshly bought and prepared
foods, wine with meals, sitting to the eat and taking time over the
meal as you mention. And yes, this is despite cheeses and pastries!
We are a social species and no doubt this pleasant ambience with
food encourages optimal growth and well-being - just like breastfed
babies.

As for the dummies (pacifiers) I wonder what may be the long-term
effects. Perhaps there's little point being slim if you can't speak so
well etc!
