<Insert big sigh here.> This poor little guy has been through the ringer with tests this week. Mom is still planning to go to the Mississippi breastfeeding clinic and see that doc. In the meantime, what are your thoughts:

Baby has now seen one pediatric GI specialist and has also been tested for a host of cardiac problems.

All tests came back negative except the VSS. The Videofluoroscopic Swallow Study (done with a radiologist and speech pathologist to assess for aspiration - food/liquid entering the trachea) showed that the baby was constantly refluxing and that his stomach was at capacity after 1.5 oz. of liquid (thin/thickened barium/water mix).

Current orders are: Nexium 20mg a day, 2-2.5oz thickened feedings and 1/2 tsp milk of mag per day. Baby is on EleCare formula. Doc said that they will hospitalize him & place an NG tube if they don't see improvement over the next two weeks.

So, the only Dx so far is reflux.

Mom is still interested in relactating and will discuss that at tomorrow's appt. Pedi GI specialist told her not to; he said that she'd have to be on a crazy elimination diet to remove soy and dairy (though no allergies have been formally Dx, they are just suspected based on different formula tolerances and stooling issues).

She is at her wit's end and just wants to know what's wrong and how to fix it (be it formula, bfing, combining those).

Tomorrow will be the first time they've seen an IBCLC since she stopped BFing a few weeks ago. She is an MD/IBCLC that can look at mom & baby as a dyad, which I think has the most promise for figuring this out. I'm still really interested to hear what any of you have to say, now that a host of GI and cardio problems have been ruled out.

Thanks! I'll update after she sees the doc tomorrow, too.
Amy
