Although this is outside the realm of breastfeeding discussion I feel it
important to address Valerie's comments on an article she read on research
into SIDS and Helicobacter pylori

>bacteria called Helicobacter pylori is responsible for some portion of SIDS
>cases. This bacteria causes an inflammatory response in the immune system
>which leads eventually to respiratory arrest.

The researchers in Britain have found only a "strong association" between
this bacteria and the occurrence of SIDS. The sample was very small - 32
babies in the case group and 8 in the control group (far too small to obtain
valid results). The researchers do not claim any causal link and more
research using a much larger sample is planned to both confirm their initial
findings and to investigate what, if any, role this bacteria may play in the
occurrence of SIDS.
