Martha,
I have had one friend and another woman I worked with who had surgery on their
breasts while lactating.  My friend turned out to have a galactoceole and was
bothered by the leakage but put up with it for some weeks.  It healed.

The woman had been told to stop nursing on the surgery side but the literature
and common sense told me to advise her to start to breastfeed again on the
healing side.
 Here is what she had to say:
        "I just wanted to give you an update. I did not nurse on the effected site
for     about 3 1/2 weeks, although the incision was still leaking a bit.  I then
resumed         nursing on the surgery side.  I know that the incision formed two
fistulas (like  holes lined with skin), the surgeon told me they would need to
be repaired after       I stopped nursing.  About 9 weeks after the surgery, the
incision finally healed,        no more leaks ... the fistulas healed!!!! By this
point I had been nursing on the         effected side for almost 2 1/2 - 3 weeks."
